Most people use their garages for storage purposes, parking their cars and even convert them into a workshop or gaming room for the kids. tiles will definitely improve the look and feel of your garage in many ways. Do the Math - Finding Space in Your Garage

Remember when you were in high school math class and you wondered when you would ever use this knowledge in the real world? Here’s a great application…finding storage space in your garage.

So, let’s take a peek at the math. If your garage size  is 24? X 24? , then you’ve got 576 square feet of precious floor space.  If you allow 90 square feet for each car and the space you need to open the doors and walk around it.  That’s 180sq. ft., or around one-third of your floor space. You should have plenty left over, right? After all. there is almost four hundred square feet left. So, why is it so crowded with clutter?

Well, the truth is most of us have more stuff than we have place to store it. Our inside closets are full already. So where does the overflow go? Yep, you got it….right into the garage. It’s one of the laws of nature.  Matter expands to fill available space. And, what’s true in nature is certainly true for our garage.

Finding Hidden Space

A common rule of thumb - for every one ; you have three walls available for storage. Three walls, excluding the one with the overhead door(s), total out to 648 sq. ft. You probably have some windows and doors and stuff so lets cut that by one-third. That still leaves 432 sq. ft. available.  Wow, that’s almost as much space as the itself!  Cool, huh? But, that’s not all. Look up. See it, 576 sq. ft. of ceiling? Let’s do some more math and add about half of that ceiling space to the wall space. 720 square feet of glorious space to attach shelves and hooks and cabinets. Remember that 300 sq. ft. of floor space you had left over after you parked the car? You just got it all back.

Off the Floor and onto the Walls

Here are some tips to help you maximize that free space you just found. Implement some or all of these ideas to organize your cluttered garage into the ultimate garage.

* Storewall, slatwall or Garage Grids turn  walls into versitile, organized masterpieces. Everything will be n
plain sight, easy to get to, and better still, easy to put away. You can put a hook or bracket anywhere
and store just about anything, from hoses to rakes, bicycles to kayaks.
* Store items in bins on wall shelves or ceiling mounted shelves.
* Wall cabinets with doors keep “stuff” organized and out of sight for a neat look.
* Ceiling storage saves floor space! Overhead compartments are great places to store the stuff you do not
use very often. Labeling the storage bins make it easy to retrieve items when you need them.
* Hang bikes, kayaks or canoes from ceiling with overhead bike hoists.

Take it one step at a time. Remember, you don’t need to do it all at once. You can tackle on area at a time.

Why topcoat my epoxy garage floor?

We get asked this question regularly. There are some internet-based sellers who claim that you don’t need to put on a clear topcoat over their . We disagree. They say this to reduce the price of their product.

The real answer is that a clear topcoat is required.

There are two reasons most DIY garage floors fail:
1. Improper or inadequate floor preparation
2. No topcoat

There are several good top coat materials. But they will all be some sort of urethane or . These materials seal the floor system and keep the floor material safe from hot tires, chemicals, or most any other environmental factor. Why do you think that the car manufacturers ALWAYS clear coat new automobiles?

Don’t be misled by some company’s statements that a clear topcoat is never required. Don’t cheap out here. The few extra dollars it takes to apply a good topcoat will insure your enjoyment of that new floor for years to come.

Don’t Fall For It!

When considering what type of flooring product you want to use it is
crucial that you don’t fall for the (home depot) single coat
process. Although they say they warranty their products they don’t
really cover the true issues that most people find with their floors.
The key complaint when dealing with this type of garage flooring
product is that it delaminates from the concrete floor within months of
application. There are two main reasons for this - the first is that
the concrete was not properly prepped before the went down. In
most cases simply pressure washing the concrete down does little good
for actually creating a good mechanical bond between the and your
concrete. In almost all floors that we do, regardless of the condition
of the floor, we diamond grind the concrete surface in an effort to
ensure the best possible adhesion of the garage flooring product. The
second most common problem with a single coat floor is that the
top coat does not provide a chemical barrier between a hot car
tire and the . When car tires get hot they have a chemical called
(Plasticine) that will chemically bond with and then when you
pull your car out the following day it simply rips the off the
floor. It is essential to use a top coat that is either a polyurethane
or a base. Both these categories of chemicals create a true
barrier to the plasticine and provide an adequate sealant for the
entire floor. If you want a floor that will last it is essential to
know what is involved because we at Garage Envy grind up home depot
type floors on a daily basis and start from scratch with our
lifetime warranty hybrid polymer flooring.
